Here in the heart of Catalonia, Barcelona is a city for everyone! It is one of those cities that really does cater for all: romanic getaways, backpackers, teenagers and small children. During our European road trip, we stayed in Barcelona for a week which was the longest amount of time we stayed in one place during the trip and we were not shy of things to do! From indulging in the food markets to sampling tapas to escaping the bustle of the city at the beach. Barcelona has a charm like no other and your children whether they are teenagers or toddlers will have a wonderful time exploring what the city has to offer.

We have put together 5 top things that you can do with your children in Barcelona.

Barcelona Zoo
Located next to the Parc de la Ciutadella and the city beach, Barcelona Zoo is great to visit as part of a 3 day itinerary. At a reasonable price of just €10.70 for an adult and €6.45 for children (under 3's go free), there are so many different animals for them to discover from tigers to hippos.

Zoos are not for everyone, I totally understand that. I advise that you research any zoo before visiting, check out their conservation work and research what their enclosures are like.
Feast in the food market
My boys were delighted to discover that Spain was the birth place of Churros and more so, churros are EVERYWHERE in Barcelona! Whilst wandering around the city, we were spoilt for choice with all of the food stalls, cafes and markets lined on every street. One of the most popular markets in Barcelona is Mercat de la Boqueria which lies in the heart of the city. You must visit this market if you are in Barcelona- its a feast for the senses!

Visit the beach
One of the best things about Barcelona is being able to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and head to the beach. It offers the perfect balance for children as they get to experience the best of both worlds.
Science Museum
My children love a science museum. It is the perfect day out for all ages and it doesn't matter what country you are in, the children can always access what a science museum has to offer.
The CosmoCaixa science museum is is the northern part of the city therefore can be paired with a visit to Parc Guell.

Parc de la Cuitadella
We are always looking for free things to do to allow us to travel on a small budget. And do you want to know a little secret? Kids are happy with free things. Find a big open space for my boys to run around in and that's pretty much a whole day sorted!

Parc de la Cuitadella is a beautiful park which I guarantee the children will enjoy. With open spaces, a boating lake, play parks and parakeets flying around, the kids will be kept busy for hours! You can combine a visit here with a trip to the zoo and the beach as they are all in close proximity of each other.
